I visited a stunning Tuscan estate today occupied by a brick building that looked like it had been there for centuries. I climbed through one of its many windows and stood near a running fountain. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and I was delighted to hear birds chirping as they flew by me.

This all happened as I sat at a desk in my office in New York City, while I played with the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. Its parent company, Oculus VR, was just acquired by Facebook for $2 billion.

The headset displays a fully immersive 3D experience that makes you feel like you are actually in the game. By moving your head from side to side, and depending on the game's premise, you can see inside an airplane's cockpit while you're flying or dodge bullets during a battle scene.

Amid projections that the headset will truly change the way we play video games, some say the deal was a steal and huge win for Facebook, especially after shelling out $16 billion for WhatsApp just a few weeks earlier. But others are unsure of the purpose of Oculus and why there's so much fuss surrounding it.

The device, which has roots on Kickstarter, is not yet on the market, but the surrounding hype has been unprecedented. Oculus VR put the product on Kickstarter about a year and a half ago and on Tuesday, turned its a pipe dream of becoming a real product into a $2 billion acquisition offer. It's a three-way win for Oculus, Kickstarter and Facebook and could also revolutionize the way people interact with others online.

While other virtual reality headsets already exist on the market, many have extremely high price points or are reserved for specific communities like the military. Pricing for the Oculus Rift has not yet been announced, but it will be competitively priced to fuel consumer interest and adoption.

Developers can currently purchase the Oculus Rift and the developer kit for $350, so they can build software and games that will work with the device.

Beyond gaming

The Oculus Rift's main sights are set on video games, but it also plans to impact the way we consumer all media, including movies. Just consider watching Avatar as though you're running through the rainforest and dodging explosions.

Video tech startup Condition One is currently working on a documentary called Zero Point about virtual reality headsets made specifically for the Oculus Rift. Although the production was announced last year, the company recently released its first interactive trailer, which gives a fascinating taste of what we might see.

The Oculus Rift supports 3D movies and a 360-degree viewing experience Zero Point will take advantage of both but the trailer is limited to 180-degree angles for now. The two-minute clip, above, lets you move your mouse in different directions to see different perspectives, likening the experience to moving your head while wearing the Oculus Rift.

Backer backlash

It didn't take long for Oculus' Kickstarter backers to complain about the Facebook acquisition.

"What in hell was the point of Kickstarter if you sell out to a giant company like Facebook?" Michael Cooper wrote on the project's comment page. "This is very disappointing. I will no longer be supporting the Oculus Rift in anyway."

Others pointed out that Kickstarter supporters serve to help companies get off the ground, and that their involvement ends there.

The Facebook factor

We're not quite sure how Facebook will use the headset, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during a conference call on Tuesday Oculus VR was of interest because it is "a long-term bet on the future of computing."

Zuckerberg believes the technology could revolutionize the way we interact with people online, which is obviously a sweet spot for Facebook.

"Oculus has the potential to be the most social platform ever," he said. "Imagine not just sharing moments with your friends online but entire experiences."

The Denver Broncos are back at it signing veteran talent that will help them get back to the Super Bowl. While theyre still linked to Jared Allen, the Broncos have gone out and signed top safety target T.J. Ward from the Cleveland Browns.

According to ESPNs Adam Schefter, the Broncos have landed the safety, who was a target before free agency opened up this afternoon.

Denver was rumored to be interested in signing Ward this offseason after the connection between the safety and the man who drafted him Tom Heckert was made. The Broncos may still be in play for other free agents, but Ward was a top target for most teams and he wont be coming cheap.

Still, the Broncos needed to upgrade their defense after the atrocious Super Bowl performance they turned in, and adding Ward is a step in the right direction. It may not solve all of their defensive problems, but it comes pretty close and the team could have done worse.

ORLANDO, Fla. A pregnant South Carolina woman accused of driving her minivan into the ocean in an attempt to kill her three children is set to appear before a judge.

Ebony Wilkerson is scheduled to have a court hearing Saturday. She has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts child abuse causing great bodily harm.

Wilkerson told police she was not trying to hurt her children, but she was driving too close to the water, "and the waves pulled her in."

Her children told investigators another story, saying their mother was trying to kill them.

Authorities also say she tried to call off bystanders hustling to rescue her three screaming children from the water that was rushing in through the windows.

The blanket is cute and fairly vibrant but the pad is a joke. It's about 10"x10" and feels actually low-cost. It's similar to actually fuzzy terry cloth and the colors are sweet dull. I wish I had the option to return the pad and keep the blanket. The quality of the blanket feels a bit low-cost, too, and I'm very worried about washing it, but since I'm choosing to use red, black, and yellow for my son's room it will look nice. Dreams of a waffle taco for breakfast can soon be realized for everyone in the U.S.

On March 27, Taco Bell will be rolling out its breakfast menu into all its 5,500 locations -- the largest menu expansion in its 50-year history. The rollout follows an extended test that began on the West Coast in 2012. The chain originally tried breakfast in 800 stores in 10 western states in early 2012.

Taco Bell is best known for its late-night Fourth Meal concept, but up until recently, the chain had virtually no presence at breakfast. President Brian Niccol said when the chain decided to capitalize on breakfast, he felt the category could use some innovation. "When we look at the category, we haven't seen much besides me-too offerings," he said. "We want to create something that isn't round and requires a bun. That's not what we do. The big innovation in the last decade is an egg white, but I think the consumer wants more and we can give them more."

A massive marketing blitz will be led by Interpublic's Deutsch, which will handle TV, in-store, point-of-purchase and radio. Publicis Groupe's DigitasLBi will field digital and social media. A teaser campaign will launch via digital and social media this week, but the full campaign won't break until the day the products are available.

Deutsch sibling DraftFCB created the packaging, which will be different than its normal look. Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Chris Brandt dubbed it "Instagram-worthy."

Mr. Brandt declined to detail how big the launch would be dollar-wise, but said: "You will not miss Taco Bell breakfast."

Waffle Taco

One of the higher-profile items on the menu is the Waffle Taco, which Mr. Niccol said "has gotten more buzz than a lot of other breakfast products." The chain made waves on social media in the first half of 2013 when it began testing the waffle taco -- which includes eggs, sausage or bacon and a side of syrup -- in a few southern California locations. That test quickly expanded to 100 stores in August.

Other products on Taco Bell's breakfast menu include the A.M. Crunchwrap; co-branded Cinnabon Delights; a Breakfast Burrito; the A.M. Grilled Taco; Flatbread Melt and hash browns. Mr. Brandt said that the the A.M. Crunchwrap -- eggs, steak, sausage or bacon, a hash brown and cheese all wrapped up in a tortilla -- will be the chain's equivalent to McDonald's Egg McMuffin, its signature breakfast item. "The breakfast sandwich hasn't changed 40 years, and we think this breaks that paradigm."

McDonald's set the standard for fast-food breakfast when it unveiled its Egg McMuffin in 1972. Chains such as Burger King later rolled out breakfast items, but McDonald's still dominates the category by a wide margin. Starbucks in recent years began putting pressure on McDonald's breakfast business -- especially as the coffee giant began opening locations with drive-thrus -- and McDonald's sought to compete with Starbucks when it rolled out its improved coffee and McCafe line of espresso-based drinks a few years ago.

Coffee is, of course, a key component in the morning daypart. Almost two-thirds of consumers drink coffee for breakfast, according to Technomic's Breakfast Consumer Trend report. Taco Bell will have a proprietary coffee blend -- though the chain doesn't expect coffee to be the star of its breakfast menu. "We are not trying to compete with [other chains with coffee] right out of the gate," said Mr Brandt. Instead, the focus is all on the food. "We believe we'll differentiate on the food upfront, and as it develops we can add specialty coffee drinks." He noted that the company has tested iced coffees and flavored coffees, but no rollouts are imminent.

Taco Bell has long been known for its cheap prices and value items. Breakfast is also an especially price-sensitive meal, according to Technomic's report. More than half of consumers (57%) who eat breakfast at home say they do so to save money, and 36% say it's too expensive to buy breakfast from a fast-food or fast-casual chain.

Mr. Brandt said that while the Taco Bell brand is inherently about value, the chain will put a heavy emphasis on product innovation in the company's marketing. The chain hasn't confirmed prices for the national rollout, and Mr. Brandt declined to discuss pricing, but he said that "we have to have these things priced correctly, so value is always in the background, but we're differentiating form an innovation standpoint."

Taco Bell's parent company Yum Brands spent about $280.3 million on U.S. measured media in the first nine months of 2013, according to Kantar Media. It spent about $250 million on the prior year. Taco Bell's same-store sales were up 3% in the U.S., while its fourth-quarter U.S. same-store sales were up 1%, marking the eighth consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth at Taco Bell.

Oh what a spiritual blanket, but don't ever lose your receipt! WPH heated blankets have an excellent 5-yr warranty, but they will not honour it without the first itemized receipt. Don't know what I did with mine--maybe I just tossed it as Linens N Equipment was finishing down right away since I'm so good about maintenance receipts and while digging for this one, I found receipts for equipment I'd long since ceased to own. So frustrating! I could have my great microplush WPH heated blanket with boost feature replaced in a heartbeat with that receipt as it's still under warranty. So without hope that it's not working after my daughter "did me a favour" by compelling it off my bed to wash all my linens. WPH facts she managed to stretch a wire somehow, which can't be fixed.This blanket kept me wonderfully and comfortably warm for three brutal Saskatchewan winters (my bedroom is in the poorly-insulated basement of a rented townhouse and winters here range from 4 to -40 degrees fahrenheit (quake!). My daughter tried to make it up to me with one of those cheap, miserable old Sunbeams from Walmart that last one-two winters at best and everlastingly get too hot (oh how I hate those equipment!) and I'm so disfigured by my WPH now--so lasting until my daughter took it off my bed. I'll just have to save up for a substitution and then my daughter can take the Sunbeam back or give it to someone else. I just can't do without my low-voltage WPH any longer and now that it's late October (gosh, it seemed like summer would never end here this year so I was truly disfigured!) I must get working on this SOON!

James Gunn Breaks Down The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Trailer

After months and months of speculations and teaser images, yesterday the world received their first real taste of the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie in the form of its first trailer. After it's premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, TotalFilm posted an exciting trailer breakdown by directer James Gunn which provided new context to some of the scenes depicted in the trailer, as well as some new information about the movie's story spiraling out of the trailer.

Gunn began by discussing the opening scene of Star Lord investigating a temple-like structure containing an orb and benig confronted by Korath. Fans have commented on the Raiders of the Lost Ark vibe that opening scene gives off, and Gunn is open about how much an influence Indiana Jones has been for him -- and this movie.

"There is probably no film that influenced me more as a child no film that excited me more or that I loved more than Raiders Of The Lost Ark," Gunn told TotalFilm. "It not only influences how I see Guardians, it influences how I live my life (which means the way for a woman to win my heart is to paint love you on her eyelids. Yes, Im still single, why do you ask?)."

Gunn goes on to discuss the "mugshots" so to speak of the protagnists, pointing out it took 15 people each to visualize the Groot and Rocket Raccoon sequences. The director calls Gamora one of the movie's two "Clint Eastwoods" (along with Nebula), describing them both as "hardasses."

Gunn says all of the heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy are "bastards" at the start of the movie, with the exception of Groot. While Groot is Rocket Raccoon's accomplice, Gunn describes him as "an innocent."

"[Groot is] a hundred percent deadly and a hundred percent sweet," Gunn reveals. "Hes caught up in Rockets life, really."

The second half of the trailer is dominated by the thumping beat and music of the song "Hooked On a Feeling," springing out of Quill's retro Sony Walkman seen in the film. Gunn says that the Walkman -- and Quill's retro 80s mixtape -- isn't incidental but a major part of Quill's persona.

"Its one of the few things he has from Earth," Gunn says, referring to the previously released information that in the movies Quill was taken from Earth at age 8. "I dont think of it as a joke, because its very dear to him. Its the umbilical cord that connects him to earth and the home and family he lost."

Gunn didn't comment much on the scenes of the Milano nor Quill's piloting of it, but did reveal a new bit of information Korath's spaceships are called Necrocraft, and he has a fleet of them.

Fans who attended 2013's Comic-Con International: San Diego panel will notice several of the scenes here are from the rough-cut trailer shown there, but Gunn points out several new scenes and finalized moments in this week's trailer including the first look of Karen Gillan as Nebula. Notable absences that Gunn says he's saving for a second trailer "in a couple months" are the debuts of Ronan the Accuser (played by Lee Pace), Yondu (played by Michael Rooker) and Nova Prime (played by Glenn Close).
